What Is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a dental restoration used to replace missing teeth. It is a fixed dental restoration, meaning that it is not removable.
A dental bridge is created by first taking an impression of the teeth and gums. A dental technician will use this impression to create a dental bridge that will fit the patient’s mouth. The bridge is then cemented in place.
Two Types of Dental Bridges
There are different types of dental bridges, including traditional dental bridges, Maryland dental bridges, and cantilever dental bridges.
Traditional Dental Bridge
A traditional dental bridge is the most common type of bridge. They are made of dental crowns and false teeth. The crowns are attached to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. The false teeth are attached to the dental crowns and hang over the gum tissue.
Cantilever Dental Bridges
Cantilever dental bridges are used when there are only two teeth on the missing tooth. The dental bridge is attached to one of the two teeth and extends over the gum tissue to the other tooth.
Maryland Dental Bridges
Maryland dental bridges are made of plastic and metal. They are used when there is little to no healthy tooth structure remaining on either side of the missing tooth.
