Teeth Grinding

Our skilled professionals will assess the extent of your bruxism and create a treatment plan to address the underlying causes and minimise its effects.

What Is Teeth Grinding?

Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a condition characterised by the involuntary clenching, gnashing, or grinding of teeth, often during sleep. It’s a common behavior that can occur both during the day (awake bruxism) and while asleep (sleep bruxism).

Symptoms of Bruxism

Bruxism can manifest with a variety of symptoms that may indicate the presence of the condition. Common signs and symptoms of bruxism include:

Teeth Grinding or Clenching

The most obvious sign of bruxism is the audible grinding or clenching of teeth, which can occur during the day or night.

Worn Tooth Surfaces

Teeth grinding can lead to the wearing down of tooth surfaces, often resulting in flat or chipped teeth.

Tooth Sensitivity

Worn enamel can cause increased tooth sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods and drinks.

Disrupted Sleep

Sleep disruptions for you or your partner, including loud grinding noises during sleep, can indicate sleep bruxism.

Tired Jaw Muscles

Feeling fatigued or strained in the jaw muscles, especially upon waking, is a common symptom.

What Can I Do to Stop Grinding My Teeth?

To address teeth grinding consider these steps:

Stress Management

Stress often contributes to bruxism. Engage in relaxation techniques like yoga, deep breathing, or meditation to alleviate stress.

Limit Stimulants

Reduce or avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they can intensify teeth grinding.

Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine

Establish calming activities before bed to signal your body to unwind.

Protective Mouthguards

Custom-made mouthguards provide a barrier between teeth, preventing damage from grinding while sleeping.

Dental Check-Ups

Regular dental visits help detect and manage teeth grinding early.

Yes, teeth grinding is a common occurrence in children. Many children grind their teeth, especially during sleep, and this usually happens during periods of tooth eruption or when their jaws are developing.

Most cases of childhood bruxism are temporary and tend to resolve on their own without causing significant harm. However, if the grinding continues, it might lead to dental issues or discomfort.

It’s essential for parents to keep an eye on their child’s teeth grinding habits and consult a dentist if they have concerns. The dentist can assess the severity of the grinding, identify any potential underlying causes, and recommend appropriate management strategies if necessary.

I had the most amazing experience. I was nervous about my dental treatment but when I got here they explained it to me and I was put at ease. The work done was amazing and I won't hesitate to return to this clinic. Dr Zaheer and his team were very professional and caring.

I also found his front desk staff Fatimatu and Frances to be very friendly and caring. I would highly recommend this clinic.

Fantastic staff. I am a truly anxious patient, and the receptionist, Frances, who took my first contact call, I felt safe. Dr Reza Sunny was so patient with me, allowing me to do tapping when I was overwhelmed, never losing focus, totally understanding. Incredibly kind. Incredibly good dentist. I had cleaning, filling, and removal of a broken molar. Even though I may still get anxious I feel safe returning when needed.

This is my first time ever to have a positive comment about a dentist.
I was astonished about the successful outcome of my dental procedure. Thank you Casey and Dr Reza, what a professional and dedicated team. I mentioned to my partner about it, and we went back to the clinic and she made an appointment for herself on the spot. I do not hesitate to recommend to any one the services of Moorooka Dental Care. Thank you all for your friendly attention, starting from the reception all way to the manager. Looking forwards to see you again.

Can't thank the team at Moorooka dental care enough for an amazing friendly experience! I have now seen both Dr Reza Sunny for general cosmetics work including fillings to teeth whitening, clean up/check ups. Very good at explaining and being upfront with procedures process and Dr Zaheer who removed both my bottom wisdoms last week did an absolute fantastic job from start to finish. They even went the extra mile to call up and check up on me a few days later to see how my recovery was going. 10/10 for service and pricing. Thanks
